My Company
I am Alexander Smith. I work as a Sales Manager in Newtech company. It was
established in 1982, more than 18 years ago. It is a Russian company. We specialise
in producing process equipment for food industry. It consist of 8 departments:
Production, sales, Advertising, Accounting, Financing, Export, Personnel, Research
and Development. The last one is newly arranged. 18 per cent of our budget goes to
research and development. Newtech is a corporation. It’s management is a Meeting
of Shareholders and a Board of Directors. Mr. Klincov is a Managing Director of
the company. The number of employees is about seven hundred people. The head
office is in Volgograd. It makes general policy decisions, and the local managers
look after the daily business in branches. It has important branches in Samara and
Saratov. They are independent. Three factories of the company are also located in
Volgograd, Saratov, Samara. Production of our company is well-made and known
in the world. It corresponds to the highest technical level and standards existing in
the world. Currently, we the tenth largest Russian equipment manufacturer with an
annual turnover of 100 roubles. In 1992 we started an export division and exports
new account for 10 per cent of our turnover. The company is doing well. Sales and
profits are rising. Over the next five years we project a much greater increase in our
export business. In order to achieve this growth we are looking for ways of
exporting to Europe and planning a number of key acquisitions there.

Auditors are usually independent certified accountants who review the financial records of a company. These reviews are called audits. They are usually performed al fixed intervals - quarterly, semiannually or annually. Auditors are employed either regularly or on a part-time basis. Some large companies maintain a continuous internal audit by their nun accounting departments. These auditors are called internal auditors Not so many years ago the presence of an auditor suggested that a company was having financial difficulties or that irregularities had been discovered in the records. Currently, however, outside audits are a normal and regular part of business practice. Auditors see that current transactions are recordered promptly and completely. Their duty is to reduce the possibility- of misappropriation, to identify mistakes or detect fraudulent transactions. Then they are usually requested to propose solutions for these problems. Thus auditors review financial records and report to the management on the current state of the company's fiscal affairs in the form of Auditor's Report or Auditor's Opinion. When a company export goods abroad there are many problems it must consider, e.g. packaging, transportation, insurance, payment. The goods must be packed carefully in containers to protect them from damage. The containers must be labeled clearly to show where they are going. Goods can be transported by sea or by air. The shipment must be insured against loss or damage in transit. Sometime the exporter takes our insurance and sometimes the importer. This depends on the terms of their agreement. While the goods are in transit they are called freight and the company pays freight rates to the shipping company. The company must pay packaging charges or costs. Exporting brings foreign currency into the country, so governments encourage export trade by giving assistance to the exporters. Often companies borrow money from banks to finance exporting. This money is called export credit. In many countries there is a special government departments called the export credit guarantees department giving a guarantee to the bank. This guarantee means that the government carries the loss, if the foreign buyer does not pay. It is a kind of insurance cover for the bank and the exporting company. Another form of government assistance or incentive is tax relief or tax advantages. Every company must pay a proportion of its earnings to the government in the form of tax. Tax relief means that exporters pay less tax on money earned abroad.
