Libraries

Libraries play an important part in the cultural development of a country. People have a desire to learn, they seek knowledge. Books satisfy this desire.

Books should not be read only for pleasure. Reading books helps us in our education. We can find all kinds of books in the libraries: novels, biographies, fiction, short stories, books on travelling, technical books, magazines, books for children and so on. In some libraries we can find books in many foreign languages.

When a reader comes to a library for the first time he fills in his library card and the librarian helps him to choose something to read. The reader is allowed to borrow books for a certain number of days. The catalogues help the reader to find the books he needs. We should be careful with the books and not damage them in any way. We should not make notes in library books or dog's-ear the pages. Reading rooms are open to all who wish to work there. Besides books we can get periodicals, newspaper files and magazines to read there. Readers come to reading rooms to study and prepare material for their reports or for their scientific work.

Книги нельзя читать только для удовольствия. Чтение книг помогает в нашем образовании. В библиотеках мы можем найти все виды книг: романы, биографические книги, художественные книги, рассказы, книги о путешествиях, техническую литературу, книги для детей и другие. В некоторых библиотеках мы можем найти книги на многих иностранных языках.

Когда читатель впервые приходит в библиотеку, он заполняет свой читательский формуляр, и библиотекарь помогает ему выбрать что-либо почитать. Читателю разрешают взять книги на определенное количество дней. Найти нужную книгу читателю помогают каталоги. Нам следует бережно относиться к книгам и не рвать их. Не следует делать пометки в библиотечных книгах или засаливать страницы. Читальные залы открыты для всех, кто хочет там работать. Кроме книг мы можем читать здесь периодику: подшивки газет и журналов. Читатели приходят в читальные залы, чтобы заниматься, готовить материал для докладов или научной работы.

Meals In Russia

Each country has its own traditions of
cooking and national dishes. Russia is mainly a northern country with harsh
winters, so food there is the source of energy and warmth. The essential
components of Russian cuisine are bread and wheat products, vegetables, dairy
produce, meat and fish. Russians usually have three meals a day: breakfast,
dinner and supper. Breakfast is a quick meal, as the majority of people are in
a hurry for work or school. It may contain a sandwich or two, an omelette, a
cup of tea or coffee. Some people eat porridges or cornflakes in the morning.
Dinner is a more sufficient meal. It is usually in the afternoon and may
contain fresh salad, soup, main course and a glass of compote – stewed fruit
drink. Typical Russian soups are shchi, solyanka, rassolnik, ukha. One of the
people’s favourites in summer is okroshka – cold soup based on kvas or sour
milk. Traditional Russian salads include Olivier and vinegret. Supper is served
in the evening, when everybody comes home after work or studies. It is the
second largest meal after dinner and it usually consists of the main course and
dessert. Russians like meat and fish dishes, such as pelmeni, kotlety,
shashlyk. Pelmeni are similar to dumplings with meat. Kotlety are like
meatballs with spices. Shashlyk is a marinated meat grilled on a skewer. After
nourishing dinner Russian people like to drink hot tea with jam or honey.
Sometimes they cook blini or syrniki for the dessert. It is worth mentioning
that Russians practice various techniques of preserving food, such as drying
mushrooms and herbs, canning fruit and vegetables. Thus, in winter they can
have a piece of summer goodies.
