My Cultural Life

I wake up at half past six every day. I stand up and go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. After breakfast I go to the bus stop to go to school. School ends about two o'clock. After school I go home.

In the afternoon I usually watch TV. About five o'clock I must learn. I have a lot of hobbies, for example swimming, walking around the town, being with my friends. But now I must learn a lot because I want to pass the high school final examination. So I haven't much time.

I am very happy when the week ends and a weekend comes because I can sleep late and I can spend my leisure time as I wish. Besides helping my parents around the house, I can go to the cinema or to see an interesting exhibition in the gallery, or travel to Prague. I can go for a trip with my friends, I can visit my relatives or can devote more time to my hobbies. The weekend is much better than the weekdays.

I love holidays very much. I spent the last holiday in Great Britain. The town is called Cardiff. I was with my best friend and my family there. The coming holiday I want to spend with my boyfriend either abroad or in our country. We must think about it. My ideal holiday is spent with my good friends. When I am with my friends and good people it isn't so important if we are in our country or abroad.

In my free time I devote a lot of time to my hobbies. When I am in the mood I go to the cinema with my friends. They are almost always showing a good movie. I like comedies and action movies. Most often I go to the cinema with my boyfriend. I go to the movies about once a week, or once every two weeks. On Sunday afternoons they show special films for children.

I like going to the theatre, the opera or the ballet no matter what the programme is because I like the atmosphere of the theatre. When we have seated ourselves we usually read the programme to see the cast. The lights go out. The curtain goes up and the performance begins.

Since I am fond of dancing, I became a member of a dancing club. We learned both standard dances such as the polka and some disco and modern dances. Now I have no time for the dancing club and I only go occasionally to a disco in the club.

Some people like listening to the radio and watching TV very much. I listen to the radio every night when I go to sleep. After school when I come home I watch serials on TV. In the evening I watch TV news, good old films and comedies. Some other programmes such as popular talk shows and hit parade can be very interesting, too.

My favourite sports are swimming and volleyball. But I like going to fitness clubs to keep fit too.

I like listening to popular music. My favourite popular group is "Spice Girls". Some people read books like novels (science fiction, westerns, travel books and love stories). I like reading love stories. If we need information it is good to have various dictionaries, encyclopaedias and scientific literature.

THE SKELETON.

The skeleton is composed of bones. In the adult the skeleton has over 200 bones.

The bones of the skull consist of cranial and facial parts. There are 26 bones in the skull.

The bones of the trunk are the spinal column or the spine and the chest (ribs and breastbone). The spine consists of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral vertebrae and the coccyx.

The vertebra is the small bone, which is formed by the body and the arch. All the vertebrae compose the spinal column or the spine. There are 32 or 34 vertebrae in the spine of the adult. There are seven cervical vertebrae, twelve thoracic vertebrae, five lumbar, five sacral vertebrae and from one to five vertebrae which form the coccyx in the spinal column. The cervical part of the spine is formed by seven cervical vertebrae. Twelve thoracic vertebrae have large bodies. The lumbar vertebrae are the largest vertebrae in the spinal column. they have oval bodies.

The chest (thorax) is composed of 12 thoracic vertebrae, the breastbone and 12 pairs of ribs. The breastbone is the long bone in the middle of the chest. It is composed of three main parts. The basic part of the chest is formed by the ribs. On each side of the chest seven ribs are connected with the breastbone by cartilages. The cartilages of three other ribs are connected with each other and with the seventh rib. But the cartilages of these ribs are not connected with the breastbone. The eleventh and the twelfth ribs are not connected with the breastbone either. They are not connected with other ribs, they are free. Each rib is composed of a head, neck and body.

The lower extremity consists of the thigh, leg and foot. It is connected with the trunk by the pelvis. The upper extremity is formed by the arm, forearm and hand. It is connected with the trunk by the shoulder girdle.

The bones of the skeleton are connected together by the joints or by the cartilages and ligaments. The bones consist of organic and inorganic substance.
