There are 22 million homes in Britain — big homes and small homes, old cottages and new buildings, houses and flats. (Americans say "apartment" but British people say "flat"). Many British people love old houses and these are often more expensive than modern ones. They also love gardening and you will see gardens everywhere you go: in towns, villages and out in the country.
Some are very small with just one tree and a few flowers. Others are enormous with plenty of flowers and enough vegetables and fruit trees. Two third of the families in Britain own their houses.
Millions of these houses are the same with two or three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, dining-room and kitchen downstairs. To pay for their house, home owners borrow money from a "building society" and pay back a little every month.
There are a great many different kinds of homes in Britain, but there are not enough! It is often very difficult for young people to find a home when they want to start a family. British homes are usually smaller than American homes. But like Americans old people, young families and unmarried people do not usually live together.

Привет, меня
зовут Анжела. Однажды я решила съездить на выходные к своему старому школьному
другу. Я попрощалась со своим мужем и сыном и отправилась в путь. 'Весёлых
выходных!’ Крикнули они мне вдогонку. Дорога
мне предстояла длинная и пришлось ехать вечером. В тот момент дорогу освещали
только фары от моей машины. Неожиданно какой-то силуэт быстро промелькнул перед
моей машиной. 'Что это было?!’ Подумала я. Я жутко испугалась! 'Я надеюсь, я не ударила
её?!' Воскликнула я. Спустя несколько минут она исчезла. Что это было?
Спустя два часа я приехала к Синди,
которая являлась моими старым школьным другом. Я была очень напугана. Она
спросила, 'Анжела, что произошло?'. ‘Я всё расскажу ’Ответила я. Синди была
удивлена произошедшим, но она мне поверила. ‘Если ты увидела приведение, то кем-то что-то произойдёт’ Утверждала она. Я
воскликнула, 'Брось, я в это не верю!'.
Спустя два дня я отправилась домой. 'Спасибо за все, пока!' Сказала я Синди на
прощанье.
Когда я подъехала к дому, я была очень напугана. Мой дом сгорел! Он был в
ужасном состоянии. Где мой муж и сын? Что произошло мне до сих пор не известно.
Они пропали! Раз и навсегда я поверила в призраков.

weak or helpless.
Old people in the US are called senior citizens.In this way Americans show respect
for the long life people have lived.It is an honour to be a citizen of a great country
and the word senior means high in rank and status.Senior citizend are called
the generation at the top.The age of retirement is sometimes called the golden age.
Old people are as different as young people in their talents skills and abilities.
Nowadays after people retire they remain active.They often work and they help their
children and grandchildren.They travel and do sport.They can give young people
good advice and tell them exciting stories.
2)In the US you have to be very careful about the words you use to speak about
minorities.You will be accused of discrimination if you show
disrespect toward different groups.Making ethnic jokes is very hurtful to people and
shows politically incorrect behaviour.
You will be accused of racism if you use the improper term for people who have black
skin.The Us no longer uses the word Negro like in the old days.The term Negro
does not refer to a persons country of origin so it is not politically correct.Most black
people on the Us now prefer the term African American.
