What is the Basis of Agricultural Land Grading?
Land classification differs much in various countries. The agricultural land is usually graded according to the degree to the degree to which its physical characteristics impose long-term limitations on agricultural use. The limitations operate in one or another way: they may affect the range of crops, which can be grown, the level of yield, the consistency of yield, and the cost of obtaining it. The ability to grow a wide range of crops (including grass) whether actual or potential is given considerable weight. It does not outweight the ability to produce consistently high yields of a somewhat narrower range of crops.
The main physical factors that are taken into account by land use planners are climate, rainfall, temperature, relief, particularly slope and soil wetness, depth, texture, structure, stoniness and available water capacity.
The grading of agricultural land on the basis of physical quality alone is not sufficient for proper and sound land use planning. The planners must consider other less permanent factors such as standard and adequacy of fixed equipment in the state and collective farms, the level of management, farm structure and accessibility. All these factors must be taken into account and defined in order to make a comprehensive assessment of land capability
