It is used for concerts, athletic events, for public gathering and other functions. 6) This Shop was built in 1567. It was described by Charles Dickens in his novel of the same title. The shop still sells curios. 7) This area is in the centre of the west End of London. It was named in commemoration of the victorious naval battle of 1805, in which a famous English admiral was fatally wounded. 8) This building long continued to be both a fortress and a palace. It was also a prison. Now it is simply Britain’s most famous and most visited historic building. According to tradition it is guarded by the Yeoman Warders. Task 6. Look at the photos below. Massive defensive walls and other towers were added later. Through the centuries , the Tower of London has been a citadel , a palace , a prison for offenders against the State , the home of the Mint, the treasury for the Crown Jewels , a menagerie , the first royal observatory. Three queens of England have been beheaded within its walls.
