Нужно перевести текст, только не через переводчик:: The Difficult Child The difficult child is the child who is unhappy. He is at war with himself, and

in consequence, he is at war with the world. A difficult child is,, nearly always made difficult by wrong treatment at home. The moulded, conditioned, disciplined, repressed child — the unfree child, whose name is a Legion, lives in every comer of the world, He lives in our town just across the street, he sits at a dull desk in a dull school, and later he sits at a duller desk in an office or on a factory bench. He is docile, prone to obey authority, fearful of criticism, and almost fanatical in his desire to be conventional and correct. He accepts what he has been taught almost without ques¬tion;, and he hands down all his complexes and fears and frustra¬tions to his children. Adults take it for granted that a child should be taught to behave in such a way that the adults will have as quiet a life as possible. Неnce the importance attached to obedience, to manner, to docility. The usual argument against freedom for children is this: life is hard, and we must train the children so that they will fit into life liter on We must therefore discipline them. If we allow them to do what they like, how will they ever be able to serve under a boss? How will they ever be able to exercise self-discipline? To impose anything by authority is wrong. Obedience must come from within —not be imposed from without. The problem child is the child who is pressured into obedience and persuaded through fear. Fear сад be a terrible thing in a child’s life. Fear must be entirely eliminated — fear of adults, fear of punishment, fear of disapproval. Only hate can flourish in the atmosphere of fear. The happiest homes are those in which the parents are frankly honest with their children without moralizing. Fear does not enter these homes. Father and son are pals. Love can thrive. In other homes love is crushed by fear. Pretentious dignity and demanded respect hold love aloof. Compelled respect always implies fear. The happiness and well-being of children depend on a degree of love £md approval we give them. We must be on the child’s side. Being oil the side of the child is giving love to the child — not possessive love — not sentimental love - just behaving to the child in such a way the child feels you love him and approve of him. Home plays many parts in the life of the growing child, it is the natural source of affection; the place where he can live with the sense Of security; it educates him in all sorts qf ways, provides him with his opportunities of recreation, it affects his status in society. Children need affection. Of all the functions of the family that of providing an affectionate background for childhood and adolescence has never been more important than it is today. Child study has enabled us to see how necessary affection is in ensuring proper emotional development; and the stresses and strains of growing up in modern urban society have the effect of intensifying the yearning for parental regard. The childhood spent with heartless, indifferent or quarrelsome parents or in a broken home makes a child permanently embittered. Nothing can compensate for lack of parental affection. .When the home is a loveless one, the children are impersonal and even hostile. Approaching adolescence children become more independent of their parents. They are now more concerned with what other kids say or do. They go on loving their parents deeply underneath, but they don’t show it on the surface. They no longer want to be loved as a possession or as an appealing child. They are gaining a sense of dignity as individuals, and they like to be treated as such. They develop a stronger sense of responsibility about matters that they think are important. From their need to be less dependent on their parents, they turn more to trusted adults outside the family for ideas and knowledge. In adolescence aggressive feelings become much stronger. In this period, children will play an earnest game of war. There may be arguments, roughhousing and even real fights. Is gun-play good or bad for children? For many years educators emphasized its harmlessness, even when thoughtful parents expressed doubt about letting their children have pistols and other warlike toys. It was assumed that in the course of growing up children have a natural tendency to bring their aggressiveness more and more under control.

1 Put the questions to the italicized words and phrases. Usually employers are looking for a person to do a

specific job. That is why it is highly recommended before you send a resume, that you research the available position and the firms to which you are sending your resume. The second most important step is to prepare for an interview. Some interviewers ask a set of questions which seem to be unrelated to the actual job but which show your personal characteristics.

Having a bad boss could be bad for your heart. This is the conclusion of a Swedish study on management styles and health. The researchers concluded that

poor managers can increase their employee's risk of developing heart disease. The Stockholm University study analyzed data on the health of 3,000 male workers. They compared the data with the results from questionnaires about senior managers. The questions asked workers if they thought their boss was considerate, communicated well and offered positive feedback. Other questions looked at how much work bosses gave to workers and how well they outlined their goals. The research team found that workers who respected their bosses were healthier and had fewer heart problems. The report is published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine. It suggests that companies should re-train bosses to improve worker health. A healthier workforce will improve the overall health of the company. Investing in providing leadership skills to senior managers could be a good long-term investment. The researchers said a more supportive and understanding boss would reduce the chances of workers developing high blood pressure and stress-related illnesses. Magnus Larsson, an engineer for a large IT company, agreed with the report's findings. He believes his heart attack last year was because of his boss: "The guy was a monster. Working for him was a daily nightmare for eight years," Larsson said.

Kyoto Prizes to further stress "moral" achievements The Kyoto Prize is Japans equivalent of the Nobel Prize. The awards are given to individuals or

groups who have made "significant contributions to the progress of science, the development of civilisation, and the enrichment and elevation of the human spirit." The sponsor of the Prizes is the Inamori Foundation, founded in 1984 by Kazuo Inamori, a successful businessman in ceramics and electronics. The prize is similar to the Nobel Prize, but more inclusive as it acknowledges Arts and Philosophy, as well as Advanced Technology and Basic Science. Unlike the Nobel Prize, however, it is never given to corporations. Every November, three winners of the Kyoto Prizes receive a diploma, a gold watch and 50 million yen. The prizes are given to scientists, philosophers and even filmmakers. In 2001, the Russian laureate, Zhores Ivanovich Alferov, won the Kyoto Prize for Advanced Technology for his work with semiconductor lasers at room temperature. He developed an efficient low cost technology that improves communication equipment from fibre-optic networks to personal DVD players. In 2006, the Prize for Arts and Philosophy went to the fashion designer, Issey Miyake, for "creating clothing that can become a part of peoples lives, cutting across time, national borders, and classes." Inamori has criticised modern culture for ignoring our emotional and spiritual development and feels that more recognition should be given to those who work for the common good. "Today we are rushing ahead with incredible scientific and technological achievements, while understanding of our emotional and psychological development lags behind badly," he says. "It is my hope that the Kyoto Prizes will encourage balanced development of both our scientific and our spiritual sides." Inamori worries that people are losing their old models of morality and ethics based on religion. But he believes that if we use our intelligence properly, we can create a* new way of thinking, one that does not add to human suffering. He has now given the Inamori Foundation 70 billion Yen, which he hopes will help to recognise people who contribute to this process.помогите ответить на вопросы What is the founder of the prize? Last autumn, a ten-year-old American boy from Kentucky tried to pick up a snake with a stick and then noticed that it had two heads. Imagine how surprised he was when the snake grabbed the stick with both heads! His dad named it Mary-Kate and Ashley, after the teenage TV and movie stars, the Olsen twins, and thinks it might have a future in show business. Two-headed snakes are not as rare as you might think. That's probably because one head wants to turn left and the other one wants to turn right.
A lack of understanding between two heads can lead to even greater difficulties: a predator would quickly swallow the hesitant snake! 'So their chances of surviving in the wild are nil,' says Burghardt. 'They can be easily attacked by predators. Two heads are NOT always better than one'. Even in captivity, there are problems. Food should be given to one head first and a moment later to the other one. If both mouths are busy chewing, they won't attack each other. On the whole, though, they can do quite well in captivity, says Burghardt. Thelma and Louise, a two-headed snake at the San Diego Zoo had 15 normal babies. She was 17 years old when she died Not long ago, a two-headed boa constrictor was born in New York. Experts don't know why she was born this way. Indy the snake has has 26 brothers and sisters but because she's one of a kind, she could one day be sold for about $500,000 to a zoo or a collector. Right now Indy's second head can't eat. drink or breathe but it flicks its tongue and looks around. The two- h e a d e d monsters of myth may have a basis in reality.
