1)they said that they had a lift but very often it didnt work
2)my aunt said that they had moved into her new flat and they didnt like it nearly as much as their last one
3)she said that nothing grew in her garden and it never got any sun
4) he said he had been in London for a month but so far he hadnt had time to visit the tower
5) he said that his wife had just been made a judge
8) i asked the boy what else had he seen
13) i said not to argue with his father

они все однотипны, где есть did (прош. время) надо делать had, если есть had то менять ничего не надо
где есть слово please, его можно опустить, а можно и оставить вот так:
19) the farmer said to visitors please not to leave the gate open
