"Единственное, что я помню больше всего, что он требовал привязанности, как никто, которую я когда-либо видел. Если он пришел к вам, он был так искренне рады видеть Вас ли он был в день или две недели. Он схватить тебя и обнять тебя на путь, что большинство людей получают неудобно ".

Great Discoveries

When we think about medieval Europe, one of the first things that we remember is the Inquisition. The Inquisition was started in 1184 by the Pope in Rome to fight against heretics, people who didn't agree with the Church. The Inquisition had the power of life and death over any Catholic and people were afraid of it, but at the end of the fifteenth century things started to change. It was the century of great discoveries.
In 1492 Columbus discovered America. In 1497 Vasco da Gama opened up a sea route to India. In 1500 Brazil was discovered, and in 1522 Magellan's expedition went round the world for the first time.
These discoveries put the Church in a difficult position. For centuries it had been telling people: 'The world is flat." But the explorers showed that it wasn't true. It became clear to everybody that the Earth was round.
Worse than that, at the beginning of the 16th century a young Polish astronomer, Copernicus, came up with a new idea. "The Earth is not the centre of the universe. It revolves around the sun, together with some other planets."
The Catholic Church had to find a way to hide this knowledge from ordinary people. In 1559 it published the Index Liborum Prohibitorum ['indeks 'libnrom 'prnhibitDrum], a list of books that were banned for Catholics. People who read these books were punished by the Inquisition. Any books from the list were burned.
Nowadays the Index Liborum Prohibitorum is open to the public. Think of any famous scientist, writer or philosopher — you'll find his name and works on the list.

Hi. it's me again

I want to tell you something about meals in britian.

The 1st meal of the day is breakfast. The traditional breakfast is very big: bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, mushrums, baked beans and fried bread! But nowadays people don't usually cook a big breakfast every morning - the onlyhave a cooked breakfast on Sundays or when they stay at a hotel.
Most people have a light breakfast. These are some of the typical things that people have for breakfast: toast with jam, honey a marmalade, fruit (grape-fruit is very popular), yaghurt, orange juice, coffee or tea.
Between twelve o'clock and two o'clock people have lunch. This is often a light meal of soup, sandwiches and/ or a salad. Most children have their lunch at school. they can take sandwiches from home or they can buy food at the school cafeteria.
The main meal of the day is dinner. People eat the between about6 and 7 o'clock in the evening. A traditional dinner is meat or fish with potatoes and vegetables, but many people are vegetarians, as well.
Pasta and pizzas are very popular. Chinese and Indian food is very pol0pular too.
There are many cookery programmes on TV and people like to try new dishes. After the main course some people have dessert (also called "pudding") such as fruit, chocolate cake or apple pie with ice-cream.

Why Rabbits Have Got Short Tails. Once there lived a rabbit. His name was Bunny. He was grey and big, bigger than his Brother Bonny. But he had no tail. And he wanted to have a long tail, longer that of Mrs. Fox. One day Bunny went for a walk. He saw Mrs. Fox. “Hello, Mrs.Fox,” he said.” Where are you going?” “ I am going shopping’’ “What are you going to buy?” “I am going to buy a tail.” “But you’ve got a tail! I think it’s the longest and the most beautiful tail!” “Well, but I want new one, a longer and more beautiful one that my old tail.” “Oh, please, Mrs.Fox, buy a tail for me too. Look at me, I haven’t got a tail.” “Ok,” said the Fox and ran to the shop. In the shop Mrs.Fox bought only one tail. It was a beautiful red tail, it was longer than her old one. She ran back home. On the way home she saw Brother Rabbit. Bunny looked at the Fox’s tail and said, ”Oh, what a beautiful tail you’ve bought. And where is my tail?” “I am sorry,” said the Fox,”but there wasn’t any tail for you.” Poor little Bunny! He was so sorry. Mrs. Fox hadn’t bought a new tail for him! A Dog who was running by came up to Bunny and said” What’s the matter?” “Oh,” said Bunny, ”All the animals have got long, beautiful tails but I haven’t got a tail!” “Poor little Bunny!” said the Dog. At that time a Cat was running by. The Dog ran after the cat, bit off a little piece of the Cat’s tail and gave it to Bunny. Bunny was happy! “Thank you very much,” he said. “Now I’ve got a tail, too… It’s a very short tail but it’s a tail.” That’s why rabbits have got short tails.
