10-11 класс

Laurie. It was very kind of you. You say in your note that you haven’t got used to being (be) an aunt yet. I used to think (think) that becoming father wouldn’t change me. I was wrong, of course! Life will never be the same again. We used to _____ (go) to bed at midnight or later. Now we’re asleep by ten because we’ve had to get used to _____ (wake) up at five o’clock. Actually, that’s quite good in a way. I always used to _______ (arrive) late at the office, but since Laurie was born my secretary has got used to ________ (find) me hard at work by the time she gets in! Mind you, it hasn’t been so easy for Jenny. I think she found it very hard first, being with the baby instead of going to work. She wasn’t used to ________ (spend) all day without adult company. But she’s got quite friendly with a neighbor who also has a young baby and I think that makes it easier. She used to ________ (say) she’d go back to work when Laurie was six months old, but now she’s used to ______ (be) at home she’s beginning to enjoy herself, so she may wait until Laurie is a bit older. Anyway, when do you think you’ll be able to come and see us? Jenny says hurry up, while Laurie is still small. We’d love a visitor to show her off to! All the best, Dennis

The age between 14 & 17 is considered to be one of
the best periods in people's life. Grown-ups remember
it with excitement & tenderness. But most teens
wouldn't agree with this opinion if they were asked.
They're sure and that's quite true that they are
overwhelmed with different problems. These
problems're quite serious and they can't be considered
trifles. Teenagers have psycological problems which
can be explained by their psycological instability. This
is the reason of their strange & sometimes agressive
behavior. Their agression can be aimed at their friends,
teachers, parents and people around them. If these
problems aren't solved & regulated by experienced
specialists, psycologists, teachers it can lead to far
more serious problems. Drinking and taking drugs have
become the most actual problems of the modern
society. As for drinking, teenagers don't realize the
harm it does to their health, they just don't want it to
the privilegeof grown-ups but unlikegrown-ups they are
notable to to drink responsibly. Government surveys on
all aspects of drinking have found that about 40
percent of teenagers're attracted by bright & impressive
advertisments of alcohol. They really believe that
certain drinks will make them look like they're
accepted. So, we can say that the low level of self-
appraisal is the main reason of drinking and drug
problem. Teenagers're greatly influenced by social
problems such as unemployment, disfunctional families
& the stress of getting into new college. They don't
know how to cope with the problems which do not
depend on them. They're badly prepared for their
solution mentally, spiritually & even physically. If
theyfail, they can be driven to despair & won't find the
way out if not helped by their families, school and
some other representatives of society. In fact,
teenagers have got a lot of work. They're busywith
their studies, household chores, some of them have a
paid job. But there's no time for fun and they want to
be entertained at least sometimes. This excessive work
leads to an inner conflict which's usually expressed in
the form of an open, direct protest against the world of
grown-ups. The next step's the conflict with parents
which's very difficult to solve. On the other hand, most
teens don't know how to organize their free time for
raising their cultural level, enriching their knowledge &
improving their physical forms.

Какие ошибки в данном тексте? Good day! Thank you for taking the time to visit our presentation. We are very happy to see you. My name is Ekateri

na Tarasova, I am the Director of producing hand-made dolls "puppeteer." Our presentation is devoted to the new series of hand-made dolls "Emelya". I would like to tell you a bit about our factory, its activities, achievements and prospects. Our factory was founded in 2008 in the city of Syktyvkar. "Puppeteer" is one of the few companies that produce similar goods in the country. We produce clean and safe product. The first two years we had one store, after we made a web site and sell dolls online, but the demand was so great that within 3 years we opened 7 stores across the country. When you create a new collection, we discussed with the authors of the general aspects of the dolls, the main artist draws images of dolls, then craftsmen in all regions already embody sketches to life. Each doll author is working to the most subtle nuances. The result is a doll with your mood, distinct personalities. I would like to tell you about our new line of hand-made dolls "Emelya". The creation of this collection was inspired by Russian - Fairy Tales. We have tried to bring together all the prominent characters of fairy tales in our collection, such as: Alenka and her brother Ivan, Emelya, Baba Yaga, Koschei the Immortal, and other characters. Artists "puppeteers" could even negative characters portray not sinister, but rather cute. Collectible doll, justifying its name in the first place is, of course, subject to collecting. This elegant interior detail, which will certainly enliven and decorate absolutely any room, will bring a special atmosphere and comfort. Let me tell you about our prospects. Our business has been very profitable. Our desire to create unique dolls coincided with the desire of consumers to purchase our creation, even in larger quantities than we expected. Since the product is in high demand, state workers have to constantly increase. In the coming year we plan to open three stores. Now, I want to appeal to the young, creative and ambitious artists. We would be glad to have you as our dolls authors of "puppeteer." Here you can fulfill your potential, and experienced colleagues always help you. Thank you very much for your attention, I'd be happy to answer your questions!

Sally had been studying at a design college for a year and, like most students, she did not have much money. It was going to be her mother's birthday soon, and she wanted to buy her a present that would be nice and useful but not too expensive.

Sally's college was in London, but she had been living in the country for many years, so every day she had an hour's journey by train in the morning, and the same in the evening.

At lunch time one day, a week before her mother's birthday, she decided to have a quick sandwich and a cup of coffee instead of her usual meal in the college hall, and then go shopping near her college to buy her mother a nice present. When she had been looking for half an hour, she came across a shop that was selling umbrellas cheap, and decided that an umbrella would be a nice present, since her mother had lost hers the month before.

'Now which colour shall I choose?' she thought. 'Well, I think a black one would be the most useful. You can carry that when you are wearing clothes of any colour, can't you?' So having made up her mind, she bought a lovely black umbrella and took it back to the college with her until her classes had finished.

On her way back home in the train that evening she felt hungry so she went to the buffet car for another sandwich and a cup of coffee. She had left the black umbrella above her seat in the compartment, but when she got back, it had gone! When she had left the compartment, there had been no other passengers in it, but now there were three.

Sally burst into tears when she saw that the umbrella was no longer there. The other passengers felt very sorry for her and asked what the matter was. When she explained that the black umbrella she had bought for her mother had disappeared, and that she had to get out at the next station, the three other passengers asked her for her mother's address, in order to be able to send the umbrella on to her in case someone had taken it by mistake and not on purpose, and brought it back after Sally had got out of the train.

The next week Sally heard from her mother. Her letter said, 'Thank you very much for your lovely presents, but why did you send me three black umbrellas?'

1) Sally had been studying at a design college for a year and, like most students, she did not have much money. It was going to be her mother's birthday soon, and she wanted to buy her a present that would be nice and useful but not too expensive.

2)William Shakespeare is the greatest of all playwrights and poets of all tines. Not much is known of his life. He was probably the son of a businessman and was born in 1564 in Stradford-upon-Avon. He probably attended the local grammar school and got a classical education. In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway and had three children. Little is known of his life before 1592, when he appeared as a playwright in London. Soon he became an actor playing supporting roles like the ghost in "Hamlet". In 1599 Shakespeare became a part owner of the Globe Theatre in London.

Shakespeare's work as a playwright is subdivided into three periods. Written in the first period, Shakespeare's plays are mostly history plays like "Henry VI", and comedies with strong elements of farce ("The Comedy of Errors"). His masterpiece of this period is "Romeo and Juliet".

In the second period Shakespeare wrote a number of comedies where he moved away from farce towards romance ("As You Like It"). In the third period, after 1600, appeared his major tragedies - "Hamlet", "Othello". They presented a clear opposition of order to chaos, good to evil.

Shakespeare was a great poet and would be well known for his poetry alone. His major achievement as a poet is his sonnets, first published in 1609. A sonnet is a poem consisting of 14 lines, with a moral at the end. The sonnets are addressed to some "W. H." and to the mysterious "Dark Lady of Sonnets". The sonnets deal with the great themes of love, friendship, death, change and immortality. Shakespeare looks at his own poetry as a means of immortality. Shakespeare's sonnets are excellent. They are full of harmony and music; they praise love, friendship and beauty though there is no sentimentality in them.

Shakespeare's poetry is at the summit of human achievements. Many centuries have passed since his death in 1616, but Shakespeare is still considered to be the greatest of all playwrights and poets.

education inRussia. Some of them came to the Moscow Medical Academy and had a talk on this subject with Dr. Ivanov, the Dean of the Medical Faculty.Dr. Conroy: Dr. Ivanov, my colleagues and I are here by the arrangement with the World Health Organization. We should like to receive some information on the training of doctors in your country and about the curricula in the medical institutions of higher learning, or medical schools as we call them.Dean: I'll be happy to answer all your questions.Dr. Conroy: First of all, would you kindly tell us who has the right to enter a medical school in your country?Dean: Any citizen of our country who has a complete secondary education may apply to medical school.Dr. Conroy: Applicants have to take examinations, don't they?Dean: Yes, quite so. All the applicants are required to take entrance competitive examinations in biology, chemistry, and the Russian language. And those who obtained the highest marks in the examinations are admitted. Applicants who have finished school with a gold or silver medal are allowed to take only one examination. If they get an excellent mark, they are admitted to the medical school.Dr. Brown: Would you tell us, please, how your students are instructed?Dean: The instruction at higher schools is given through lectures, group instruction and practical classes.Dr. Scott: Is the attendance at lectures and classes voluntary?Dean: No, it is compulsory for all students.Dr. Conroy: How is the students' knowledge checked?Dean: Our academic year begins on September 1st and is divided into two terms of four months each. At the end of each term the students have to pass a number of examinations.Dr. Brown: We should like to know something about your medical curriculum, if we may.Dean: Well, the course of study lasts 6 years and covers basic preclinical and clinical subjects. In the pre-clinical years the curriculum is uniform for the students of the medical, preventive medicine, stomatological and pediatric faculties. During the first two years students study physics, general, organic, inorganic and biological chemistry. The students also study human anatomy, physiology, histology, microbiology, Latin, a foreign language, and philosophy. Beginning with the third year special clinical subjects are introduced - all branches of internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, infectious diseases and others. At the end of the third year students take a six-week practical course. They perform the duties of nurses. After their fourth year students take another practical course during which they are ex- posed to direct doctor-patient communication at the department of internal diseases as well as at the surgical department, and the department of obstetrics and gynaecology. Working as doctor's assistants, students master a definite number of medical and diagnostic procedures. Senior students also do a practicum in out-patient departments. They have to attend lectures, seminars, and clinical conferences as well.Dr. Conroy: Dr. Ivanov, you've told us about undergraduate clinical training in the Medical Faculty. How does the training course at a medical school end? And what about specialization?Dean: You see, in our country graduate medical students take a final state examination which includes theoretical questions in internal diseases, surgery and obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as in clinical cases. The graduates also have to demonstrate their practical skills. Those who have passed the examination receive their diploma, which certifies them as doctors. Having received a diploma they may either take a one-year internship course qualifying them as general health care specialists, or a two-year residency course qualifying them as narrow specialists.Dr. Brown: Dr. Ivanov, would you kindly tell us what facilities your doctors have for specialization?Dean: Interns and residents work under the direct supervision of experienced specialists in clinics and in major hospitals. Medical graduates can also apply for the post-graduate training. For three years postgraduates do research into one of the important problems of modern medicine, prepare a thesis, defend it, and obtain an academic degree of Candidate of Medical Science.Dr. Conroy: Dr. Ivanov, thank you very much for the talk. Dean: You are most welcome. If you like, I'll gladly show you through some of our clinical hospitals and departments. Dr. Brown: We'd be much obliged to you.
