Nobody tried to invent the e-mail. It simply happened. In 1969 anAmerican, Ray Tomlinson, was working on two projects at the same time.Firstly, he was working on a programme called SNDMSG ( send message). With that programmethe people in his company were able to leavemessages for each other. The second project was a file-transfer programme(CYPNET). With that programme users were able to send files between linked computers.

Suddenly Tomlinson had an idea.«If I put the two programmestogether, I may be able to send messages, not just files, to other computers.»The idea worked and quickly became popular.

Tomlinsoninvented e-mail addresses too. These have twoparts:the name of the user and the name of the host (the computer) .He chose the "commercial at" symbol and combined the user and host names. For example:[email protected] (миша инин на компьютере лукинск.ру) .the decision to take the @ symbol took Tomlinson only thiry or forty seconds.

помогите перевести текст на русский язык ! спасибо ! There was a big flood near our house in spring. The water came down from the mountain and

the hills, the river came up and u p, and a lot of the houses on the low land were soon under the water. The Red Cross sent some men, and they brought food and dry clothes, and took some people to higher ground in boats. One old man lives in a small house near our river. He is a poor man, and there aren't any other houses near his. There was a lot of rain one night, and in the morning the old man looked out of his window and saw the flood. The water was nearly up to his bedroom window. The water came up and u p, and the old man went to the top floor of his house. Then the flood was worse, and he went up on to the roof. "What am I going to do?" he said. "The water's very deep, and I can't swim." But after three hours the old man saw a boat. It came slowly near, and the old man saw two young men in it. "We've come from the Red Cross," one of the young men called, "and . . ." "I'm sorry," the old man answered, "but I've just given you some money this month, and I haven't got much. I'm a poor man."

It was a beautiful afternoon in the woods near the village of Montignac. Four friends strolled happily among the tall trees, telling stories about treasures that people had hidden in the forest.
As they were walking, one of the boys fell over. When the others ran to help him, they saw that there was a hole in the ground. The boys started to dig. They wanted to make the hole bigger so that they could climb in and have a look. By this time though, it was getting dark so they decided to leave. They returned to the woods before school. One by one. the boys lit their torches and crawled into the small dark tunnel. After about ten minutes, the boy who was at the front let out a loud gasp. When he pointed his torch at the wall, everyone was amazed to see the walls covered with colourful pictures of horses, deer and oxen. The friends ran quickly to school and told their teacher all about their fantastic discovery. Immediately, she called an expert to examine the paintings.
Later that day, their teacher asked the boys to stay behind after school. "The expert has confirmed that you are the first modern people to see the Lascaux paintings, which are at least 17,000 years old," she told them smiling. The boys felt really proud.
