fictional detective without doubt, it is Sherlock Holme The author of the Sherlock Holmes stories was Arthur Conan Doyle He was born in Scotland in 1859 and studied medicine at Edinburgh university. After leaving university he mined to the south of England and worked as a doctor, but in his spacetime he started to write detective stores he hero of the stories is a private detective called Sherlock Holmes, who lives at 22 lb Bake Street in London. There i is now a museum at that address(see http://www.sherlock- holmes coale Holmes is tall and thin, with a long sharp face He usually wears a deerstalker hat smokes a pipe or cigarettes and carries a magnifying glass. He is an extremely st intel gen man who always thinks logically about the crimes he is trying to solve He is also a brilliant violins however, he has a dark side to his character he is a one and rather ad man who is cash bored with everyday life. He often depressed and sometimes spends all day in bed. He is not married and says that he doesn't understand women Holmes lives with his assistant and only friend, Dr Watson Watson describes him in one of the stories as a brain without a heart, and more a machine than a man'. In 1895, after Conan Doyle had written 25 stories about Holmes, he got bored with his detective and decided that Holmes would die in the next story At the end of the story called The Final Problem, Holmes fights Professo Moriarty, his greatest enemy, by a huge waterfall in Switzerland They both die when they fall into the waterfall. But the Holmes stores were already incredibly popular and his fans were very upset.

Read the text and put the paragraphs (1–5) in the correct order.

The birds were watching all this. They felt sorry for the monkey but there was little they could do for him. One of them said, “Brother! Our small nests are not enough to give you shelter.” Another bird said, “All of us prepared for the rainy season. If you had, you would not be in this piteous situation.”
2)
On a mango tree in a jungle, there lived many birds. They were happy in their small nests. Before the onset of the rainy season, all the animals of the jungle repaired their homes. The birds also made their homes more secure.
3)
It continued raining for many days. One day, a monkey wet in the rain came into the forest. He sat on a branch, shivering with cold, water dripping from his body. The poor monkey tried his best to get shelter, but in vain. The leaves were not enough to save him from the rain. “Brrr! It is so cold!” said the monkey.
4)
“How dare you tell me what to do?” said the monkey, growling at the bird. The monkey angrily pounced on the bird’s nest, tore it and threw it on the ground. The bird and her chicks were helpless.

The poor bird thought, “Fools never value good advice. It is better not to advise them.”


5)
Many birds brought twigs and leaves and others wove their nests. “We should also store some food for our children,” chirped one of the birds. And they collected food, until they had enough to see them through the rainy season. They kept themselves busy preparing for the tough times.

Soon the rain came. It was followed by thunder and lighting. All the animals and birds stayed in their homes.

Read the text and put the paragraphs (1-5) in order.

1) Finally the day came when the boy didn`t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
2) The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won`t matter how many tines you say I`m sorry. The wound is still there."
3) A verbal wound is as bad as physical one.
4) The first day, the put 37 nails into the fense. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
5) There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
