Chinese… When people from other countries came to live in the US, they brought different cooking traditions. Some of them opened restaurants. Today Americans enjoy food from all over the world. Over the years some foreign dishes changed a little. Doughnuts were originally from Holland. In 1847 a young American boy told his mother that her doughnuts were never cooked in the middle. He cut out the centre and his mother cooked them — and they were very tasty! Maybe the US is most famous for “fast foods”. The first fast food restaurants served hamburgers, but now they serve other kinds of food too. Inside there is often a “salad bar”, where you can help yourself to as much salad as you want. Americans eat a lot, and when they go to a restaurant, they don’t expect to be hungry afterwards. Most restaurants will put a lot of food on your plate — sometimes it can be too much. But if you can’t finish it all, don’t worry: they will give you a “doggy bag” and you can take it home. Most Americans now have a light breakfast instead of the traditional eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice and coffee. But on weekends there is more time, and a large late breakfast or early lunch is often eaten with family or friends.

Что такое “американская еда"? Ответ заключается в том, что она состоит частично из итальянской, английской, немецкой, мексиканской и китайской кухни. Когда люди из других стран приехали жить в США, они привесли с собой разные кулинарные традиции. Некоторые из них открыли рестораны. Сегодня американцы заказывают блюда со всего мира. В течение многих лет некоторые иностранные блюда немного изменились. Пончики родом из Голландии. В 1847 году молодой американский мальчик сказал своей матери, что ее пончики никогда не пропекаются в середине. Он вырезал центр и его мать приготовила их, - и они были очень вкусные! Может быть, Америка наиболее знаменита своими “фаст-фудами”. На первое в ресторанах фаст-фуда подавали гамбургеры, но теперь слишком много разновидностей этого блюда. Там, в ресторанах часто есть “салат-бар”, где вы можете положить себе сами столько салата, сколько вы хотите. Американцы едят много, и когда они идут в ресторан, они надеятся, что они не останутся голодные. Большинство ресторанов кладут много пищи на вашу тарелку - иногда это может быть слишком много. Но если вы не сможете съесть все это, не беспокойтесь: они дадут вам “doggy bag”, (не переводится, это специальная упаковка в специальной бумаге) и вы можете взять домой то, что осталось (что не смогли съесть). Большинство американцев сейчас имеют легкий завтрак вместо традиционного яйца, бекона, тостов, апельсинового сока и кофе. Но по выходным, когда есть достаточно времени, во время так называемого "большого позднего завтрака" или "раннего обеда" они часто едят с семьей или друзьями.

I love New Year's Day! To me, this is a day when my family get and ejoy themselves. On January 1st, my house is always full of aunts, uncles and cousins who i haven't seen for ages and we all have the chance to catch up with each other's news. My mum always makes a delicious roast beef lunch and we all sit around the table and eat , talk and laugh for hours. After this huge meal, it's time to watch the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is one of the most important footbal championships in American League football. Everybody has their favourite team and sometimes the yelling and cheering can get very loud! The food and the football are all great, but i think the best part of the day is when we makeour New Year resoiunions. Although most people don't keep their New Year promises, it is interesting to hear what everybody wants to change about themselves!

People who do eat too much fast food can have health problems. In the United States, 300,000 people а year die from illnesses related to obesity. Twenty per
cent of children in the United States are overweight. The problem has spread as Western fast food has become popular in countries like China, India and Japan. Five to ten per cent of Chinese children are now overweight.
Also, some fast foods contain а lot of fat and sugar. Some health experts believe that high-fat and high-sugar foods change children s behaviour. А recent
survey in Japan found that badly behaved children ate more fast food than well-behaved children.
The good news is that fast food is changing. It is becoming healthier. Thai, Turkish, Japanese and Filipino fast food is becoming popular in the United States.
You can have а quick snack in Elephant Jump (Thai), Jollibee (Filipino) or Yoshinoya (Japanese) if you don' t want а pizza.

What Is Science and What Is Technology?
What is Science? What is Technology? These are not easy questions. People don't often see the difference between them. But they are different though the two are connected. Science studies the physical world. Trying to answer questions about this world of ours scientists ask "what" and "why" questions. "What" questions are usually answered in a rather simple way. For example we have a question: "What kind of animals live in that pond?" The answer to the question is: "Frogs, fish and reptiles." "Why" questions are much more difficult, they ask for explanation.
Technology is the use of science for practical purposes especially in industry. Technology is also methods and machines that are used in doing things in a science or profession. Technology often asks "how" questions and answers them. Some technologies cannot function without science, but there are many modern technologies that developed from old technologies without any help of science. It often happened in history that people made things and after that science tried to explain them. For example, first guns appeared and then ballistics as a science did.
During certain periods in history innovations in technology have grown so fast that they resulted in industrial revolutions.
