“It’s Valentine’s Day today,” says Mrs. Bear one morning.
“I know,” says Little Bear. “The postal worker has brought
you a card. It’s got a heart on the envelope.”
Mrs. Bear opens it at once and reads it out loud:“Now, I wonder who that’s from?” says Mrs. Bear with
a smile. “There’s a paw mark at the bottom.”
Just then Little Bear sees something outside the window.
“Look,” he says, “there’s a jar of honey walking up the garden
path.”
Mrs. Bear goes to the window. Somebody is carrying the big-
gest jar of honey she has ever seen. It hasin large letters on the lable.
Little Bear opens the door and the jar of honey walks in.
“Daddy!” says Little Bear. “It’s YOU!”
“My Valentine,” says Mrs. Bear. And she gives Mr. Bear a big
hug.
Then Mr. Bear, Mrs. Bear, and Little Bear all sit down and
have hot tea and honey for special breakfast on Valentine’s Day.

Mark: What happened here yesterday? Your brother John and your parents aren't talking to each other.
Emily: John wanted to go to the disco again.
Rob: What's wrong with that?
Emily: It's a long story. John is going to be fifteen this year and our parents used to let him go to the disco with his friends. Everything was OK until a month ago: John always came back on time and everybody was happy. A month ago John went to the disco as usual and promised to be home at ten o'clock. When he didn't come at ten, our parents expected him to phone and tell them what was going on, but he didn't phone. That night he came home at midnight and our parents were very upset. After that night they warned John not to do it again and our parents let him go back to the disco. But then he was late again and once again he didn't phone. A couple of days later John's teacher asked our parents to come to the school. He told Mom and Dad that John had been getting a lot of bad marks in the last few months. Our parents wanted John to explain everything and asked him a lot of questions, but he refused to answer them. Since then our parents haven't let him go out, and every Friday when his friends go to the disco and have fun, he has to stay at home and watch TV.
Rob: That's really not fair!
Misha: They make a fifteen-year-old stay at home! They don't have much respect for him!
Mark: I don't agree with you. John's parents trusted him and he let them down. It's his own fault.

the little brown hen lays an egg. He says it again and it lays another egg, and then another. Soon there are ten eggs on the table. Jack looks through a hole in the oven door and sees the eggs.

"The eggs are golden! The hen is magic!"

The giant is very tired after his big meal. Soon his eyes close and he falls asleep.

Jack gets ready to leave.

"Now I can go!"

He slowly opens the oven door, climbs out of the oven and walks to the table. He wants to take the giant's hen.

"Come here, little hen. You're coming with me! I need a magic hen. Now I can be rich, and mother won't be angry with me!"

While the giant is sleeping, Jack takes the hen from the table. He is very quiet because he doesn't want to wake him up.
