Sarah had a son of ten, who was called Jack. He did not like studying, but loved watching television. Sarah used to drive at school at half past four in the afternoon, bring Jack back home and give him some tea, but as soon as he got home, he always rushed to the television set and turned it on. “Haven’t you got any homework, Jack?” his mother always asked him as she began to make tea.
“Eh? Oh, yes, I have got a little,” he used to answer. “I’ll do it later when there’s nothing interesting on the television.”
At first Sarah had allowed Jack to watch television instead of starting his homework first, but soon she discovered that he never had a little homework – it was always a great deal- and that there was never a time when there was nothing interesting on television, so that after putting off doing his homework for a couple of hours, Jack was too tired to do his homework properly, if at all.
Sarah then decided to make him do it first. This was always a battle, and often when Jack obeyed his mother, he did his work quickly and carelessly as he wanted to finish it quickly and get back to his beloved television.
The result was the same as when he left his homework until last; bad work, which he was punished for the next day at school by getting low marks, either because his homework was full of mistakes, or because he did not know the work he was supposed to have prepared the night before.
One evening Jack’s science homework was about famous inventors like Thomas Edison, who made important discoveries and inventions in the field of electricity. When he had homework that consisted of learning facts, his mother began to test him when he finished, to try to make sure that he had really done the work properly and not left anything out, and this was what she did this time. She did not let him stop until she was sure that he knew what was in his book.
But this time, it was less of a battle than usual to make Jack sit down and go over what he had learnt carefully, because it had strong connection with television.
In class the next day, the teacher said to Jack,” What are some of the things that Thomas Edison did for science?”
“Well,” Jack answered happily, “first of all, if it were not for Edison, we’d all be watching television by candlelight.”

King John was not a good man —
He had his little ways.
And sometimes no one spoke to him

King John was not a good man —
He wrote this message out,
And gat him to his room again,
Descending by the spout.
And all that night he lay there,
A prey to hopes and fears.
“I think that’s him a-coming now,He’ll bring one present, anyhow —
The first I’ve had for years

“Forget about the crackers,
And forget about the candy;
I’m sure a box of chocolates
Would never come in handy;

Next morning when the sun
Rose up to tell a waiting world

King John stood by the window,
And frowned to see below
The happy bands of boys and girls
All playing in the snow.
A while he stood there watching,

There hurtled by his royal head,
And bounced and fell upon the bed,

"Do you know there are jewels in that building? They are called the Crown Jewels. I'd like to see them and even try some of them on," said Beatrice
"But Beatrice, it's dangerouds! The guards will catch us," said Susan
"Don't be afraid. The Beefeaters are sleeping now, aren't they? So they won't know we tried on the jewels. Let's go," Beatrice told her friends and they ran to the tall tower
Soon they found the cass with the Crown Jewels. Edward ripped all the wires to the alarm system out. Beatrice took out the Coronation Crown and put it on her head. "Do I look like a queen?" Beatrice asked her friends
Albert tried on a few necklaces and rings. "Oh, look at me," he said. "I look splendid, don't I?"
Susan tried on another crown. She didn't say anything but felt beautiful in it
After a while they were tired of the fun and games. They put down all the jewels in the middle of the floor and went towards the door. Suddenly, Edward touched an alarm which he hadn't turned off. Suddenly, the lights went on! Sirens rang out! The lions saw the Beefeaters, who ran towards them. The four friends jumped over the wall of the Tower of London and ran into the Underground.
"Next time you should be more careful, Edward!" said Beatrice

Emily: Hello, guys. I'm so happy to see you again. Mom, Dad these are our British relatives, Rob and Mark MacWizard. They are the smartest guys I know.
Mr and Mrs Wilson: It's great to meet you, guys. How are you?
Emily: And this is Misha Inin. He's from Russia and he's my best friend.

Mr and Mrs Wilson: It's nice to meet you,Misha
Misha: Nice to meet you, Mr Wilson and Mrs Wilson. Mr Wilson: Oh, please just call us Diana and Martin.
Misha: OK, Martin.

Mr Wilson: That's better.
Mrs Wilson: How was your flight, boys? Are you tired?
Mark: It was fine, thank you. A bit long, but we had a great time.
Rob: Yes, we had a very nice breakfast and lunch.

Misha: And I watched two films during the flight.

Mr Wilson: I'm glad to hear that, but let's go. Everyone is waiting to see you.

Rob: Everyone?

Mr Wilson: Oh, yes. The rest of the family is waiting for you
outside. All our brothers, sisters and cousins. There are thirteen of them. They've been asking about our new relatives from Britain.

Mark: What a big family!
Emily: Actually, there are more of us, but not everybody
could come to the airport today. You'll meet the whole family the day after tomorrow. We're organizing a big family party.

Rob: Are we going to meet the whole family?

Mrs Wilson: Oh, no, don't worry. My terrible cousin Terry, who did all those awful things to you, isn't going to be there. He's in prison now.

Emily: Let's forget about the past. You're in the USA now and you're going to see one of the greatest cities on the planet — New York!
