(A) Last summer I was in a language school in Malta ['тэ:11з|. I had won an English language competition and the prize was a two-week trip. I enjoyed it greatly, but there was one thing that really spoilt my impression. It was my roommate. She was a cute (симпатичная) girl but a real chatterbox. In the morning, when we got up, she used to talk about clothes and boys all the time. She kept talking about these same things during the breaks between our classes, and even in the evening I had no chance to escape from her "boys and clothes".

I'm not a bore and I'm certainly not a bookworm who is interested only in studying. I didn't feel jealous either, but her silly talking made me mad and even the sound of her voice seemed to me very annoying. Sometimes I told her that her clothes looked stupid and didn't suit her at all or made fun of the boy she liked. She was quieter when she was upset. Then I felt ashamed of how I spoke to her:

Unlike your mum or dad, your roommate is not going to accept all your "nice and lovely" habits and support you in every situation. You have to earn his or her friendship and any good feelings he or she has for you. This means that you shouldn't do anything that hurts your roommate. The law of coexistence is very simple: you can do anything you like but not at other people's expense (за счет других). In other words, you can enjoy yourself as long as it doesn't hurt other people. (С)It is great fun to have a roommate. It means that you can do whatever you want and not only what your parents want you to do. My parents, for example, tell me day and night that I should keep my room tidy. I appreciate their care but I'm annoyed by all of the washing up and cleaning. I don't see what the trouble is if I keep some of my clothes out of the wardrobe and on the sofa or even under it. Our home is not a museum, so why make such a fuss about tidiness? I don't think teenagers care about that at all.
(D) I lived apart from my family when I was at sports camp. Our athletic team — eight lads — shared one big room. You may think that it's not easy when there are so many people with different personalities around you. Nothing of the kind! All you need to do is to think about the other seven people. We even worked out a list of rules that helped avoid quarrels.

Thanks to zoos, certain species of animals have been saved from extinction. Such animals are bred in captivity and when they are ready to survive in the wild, are reintroduced to their original habitat - in the rain forests of Brazil, for instance.In the second place, children can obtain direct knowledge about a variety of animals by visiting zoos. They can see what a tiger is like, hear various sounds of birds and tell one animal from another. If there is no such a place, how can they make contact with animals? They may never have a chance to see various animals even though they learn many from books. When I was a little girl, I liked animals very much, especially birds. But I could not feed them for myself, so the zoo which was located near my home was the place I went to most frequent. And I really love these places.Finally, a zoo is a place for fun. In fact, this is why it is so good at educating the public about the importance of conserving wildlife and the environment: it puts fun into education. Seeing pictures is not the same as seeing animals at close up. What makes visiting a zoo so enjoyable is our close contact with them. Therefore a zoo not only attracts many tourists from other countries, it also allows us to see, without having to leave home, big cats and exotic animals of distant countries.In summary, I believe that a zoo has some useful purposes to serve: to preserve the endangered species, to educate the public about wildlife, and for its visitors to have fun. So a zoo of course is a useful place for us and we should have them.
