London is the biggest city in Britain.Over seven million people live and work in london.
London is also one of the most important cities in the world.It is a centre for business and tourism.
There are many exciting things to do in London.The city has got some of the best theatres and museums in the world.There are a lot of places to go at night.it is a fun city!
The Romans came to Britain in AD 43.They built a town on the River Thames.They called the town Londinium.
Soon,they built a bridge over the river.Londinium grew bigger.Ships came to the town from all over Europe.
The Romans built roads from Londinium to other parts of Britian.By the year 400,there were fifty thousand people living in the sity............

Great Britain is not a large country. It is smaller than France and Norway. There are four parts in Great Britain: Scotland, England , Wales and Northern Ireland.England is the largest part of the country. The symbol of England is a rose. People who live in England are English. The symbol of Northern Ireland is shamrock and a red hand.People who live in Northern Ireland are Irish.The symbol of Wales is a daffodil. People who live in Wales are Welsh. The symbol of Scotland is a thistle. People who live in Scotland are Scotish. All people who live in great Britain are British. English is spoken in the UK.

People in every country celebrate holidays.Although "holiday" means "holly day" most holidays in Great Britain are not religious but commemorative in nature and origin.There are only 6 public holidays a year in Great Britain,that is days on which people need not go in work.There are:Christmast Day,Boxing Day,Good Friday,Easter Monday,Spring Bank Holiday and Late Summer Bank Holiday.In Scotland,the New Year`s Day is also a public holiday.
Christmas
For many British families Christmas is the most important holiday.Christmas is selebrated in Grean Britain on the 25-th of Desember.Christmas is a religious holiday and one of the happiest holidays of the year,because it is the day that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
People prepare for Christmast weeks before:they buy gifts for their families and friends,choose fur-trees and decorate them with ornaments,coloured paper,holly and lights,different toys and candles.
There are a lot of traditions connected whith Christmas but perhaps the most important one is Christmas present.Children wait for Santa Claus who comes to every house and brings presents.Going to bed children leave their stockings and shoes to receive present the next morning.
There are a lot of jokes and fun on Christmas day.Young people like to spend it together in good companies.Family members sit down to a big turkey dinner followed by Christmas pudding and Christmas cake.Later in the afternoon they will watch the Queen on TV as she delivers her traditional message to the U.K. and the Commonwealth.
People wish each other a "Merry Christmas!"
