The New World
a) The United States is a young country. It is only a few hundred years old. Millions of people from other countries and continents —Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and South America — find their new borne Ira the United states.
b) The people of the United states are of many different nаtiоnalities. These different people brought to the new home their traditions, holidays and festivals. From Germany they brought Christmas trees. From Ireland they brought St. Patrick's Day celebrations. From scotland they brought Halloween. Americans celebrate the festivals of the Old World. But there are new American festivals and traditions too. c) Americans like new ideas. They built the first skyscrapers and they- put the first man on the moon. They like to be modern. They enjoy big modern cities, new houses and new cars. At the same time Americans love old things. They like to visit historic houses and museums. They remember their country's history and the days of the "Wild West", Most of them are very proud of their country and love it.

It also has a large sculpture collection. 5) This Concert Hall is a circular brick building under a glass-and-metal roof. The Hall was built in 1867-1871. It is a big concert hall, seating 8,000. It is used for concerts, athletic events, for public gathering and other functions. 6) This Shop was built in 1567. It was described by Charles Dickens in his novel of the same title. The shop still sells curios. 7) This area is in the centre of the west End of London. It was named in commemoration of the victorious naval battle of 1805, in which a famous English admiral was fatally wounded. 8) This building long continued to be both a fortress and a palace. It was also a prison. Now it is simply Britain’s most famous and most visited historic building. According to tradition it is guarded by the Yeoman Warders. Task 6. Look at the photos below.
