often involved spinning your body around on the floor but it is no longer popular. Later, the electric boogie appeared. With this, the dancers moved like robots, twitching their bodies in time to the music. Nowadays, there is free style - dancers just do what they want! If you look at the fashions of the 'Hip Hop' culture, you can see the choice of clothes was influenced by the way of dancing. You needed loose clothes to do break dancing. Also, you need comfortable shoes and trainers seemed the best style. The fashion for trousers hanging below the hips has a different origin. Unfortunately, a lot of young people from the Bronx have had prison experience. Prisoners have to remove their belts so they can't use them as weapons. As a result, prisoners would walk around with their jeans hanging low. When these young men were released, they brought this habit to their neighbourhood. And this style became popular with many young men who didn't realize where it came from.

Jessica, an American, and Liz, a British girl, are watching the Chinese New celebration in New York
Liz: I like the parade! It's great!
Jessica: Look! There is another dragon chasing a ball. It is beautiful ,isn't it?
Liz: It is!
Jessica: Can you see those young men in the distance? They are to play the drums, aren't they?
Liz. I think they are. At the Chinese New Year parade in London people play drums and gongs.
Jessica: Do they? Look, this is the Lion Dance.
Liz. I know. The lion is so funny. ^ It doesn't look scary, does it?
Jessica: The lion and its dance just make me smile.

Sarah had a son of ten, who was called Jack. He did not like studying, but loved watching television. Sarah used to drive at school at half past four in the afternoon, bring Jack back home and give him some tea, but as soon as he got home, he always rushed to the television set and turned it on. “Haven’t you got any homework, Jack?” his mother always asked him as she began to make tea.
“Eh? Oh, yes, I have got a little,” he used to answer. “I’ll do it later when there’s nothing interesting on the television.”
At first Sarah had allowed Jack to watch television instead of starting his homework first, but soon she discovered that he never had a little homework – it was always a great deal- and that there was never a time when there was nothing interesting on television, so that after putting off doing his homework for a couple of hours, Jack was too tired to do his homework properly, if at all.
Sarah then decided to make him do it first. This was always a battle, and often when Jack obeyed his mother, he did his work quickly and carelessly as he wanted to finish it quickly and get back to his beloved television.
The result was the same as when he left his homework until last; bad work, which he was punished for the next day at school by getting low marks, either because his homework was full of mistakes, or because he did not know the work he was supposed to have prepared the night before.
One evening Jack’s science homework was about famous inventors like Thomas Edison, who made important discoveries and inventions in the field of electricity. When he had homework that consisted of learning facts, his mother began to test him when he finished, to try to make sure that he had really done the work properly and not left anything out, and this was what she did this time. She did not let him stop until she was sure that he knew what was in his book.
But this time, it was less of a battle than usual to make Jack sit down and go over what he had learnt carefully, because it had strong connection with television.
In class the next day, the teacher said to Jack,” What are some of the things that Thomas Edison did for science?”
“Well,” Jack answered happily, “first of all, if it were not for Edison, we’d all be watching television by candlelight.”

It was July 16, 2008 and I was at City
Hall to do something thatwould change my life forever. I went to
Room 302 and got my workingcard. I thought I was independent and
ready to get a job.
First I filled in applications. I put in over 100 applications at
restau-rants, clothing stores, and hotels. I kept looking for a job, and
I decidedto go to the mall. I was interested in getting a
place in one restaurantbecause my good school friend worked there,
and he told me they neededpeople. I thought it might turn out to
be successful.
One day, when I came home and turned on the answering
machine, there was a message on it. It was a job! A lady from a
supermarket calledme for an interview on Tuesday. I was very
excited. This was my first interview. On Sunday I got up
early, my mom and I went shopping fora dress. I put on this
dress on Tuesday. The lady asked me a lot of questi-ons, but I
thought over the answers the day before.
I didn’t get the job, but I found out that you can’t get a job easily. It’s very hard work.

A flea is a very small and troublesome insect that can drive a dog crazy with all the itching and scratching it causes. So what do fleas have to do with markets and shopping? No one is quite sure, as the origins of the term 'flea market' are not certain. Some people believe it originates from the Dutch language, others think it stems from French. But there is one thing that almost everybody agrees on: there's no better place to shop if you are in search of a good bargain.

There are countless flea markets all around the world, and they are especially popular in Europe. One of the busiest markets in Europe is in the town of Lille, Northern France: La Braderie. With two hundred kilometres of open air stalls, this flea market offers a massive diversity of things to buy at reduced prices. Unfortunately, this amazing event, which has over a million visitors, is only an annual event which happens during the first weekend of September. Another shopper's paradise is in Russia. Moscow has many flea markets but the Vernisazh flea market at Izmailovsky Park is perhaps the most famous. There is almost nothing that you can't find there, especially if you are a tourist looking for authentic Russian souvenirs to bring back home.

But flea markets are not just places where tourists can buy inexpensive things. The Annex Antiques Fair and Flea Market in New York, USA, is a trendy market which has been attracting famous Hollywood stars as well as people living in the area ever since it opened. So, as you see, flea markets offer something for everyone!

On July 2nd 1900 crowds of people living in a German town gathered to watch the very first Zeppelin airship go up in the air. Similar airships had been around for about 50 years but the Zeppelin was the first airship with a special design that allowed it to travel faster than those built before. The Zeppelin's inventor was Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. In 1910, the airship Deutschland became the world's first commercial airship. By the start of World War I in 1914, German Zeppelins had travelled over 172,000 km and carried over 34,000 passengers and crew safely.
