A student living in a school district that is organized according to the most usual educational pattern would complete the first eight grades in an elementary school and then continue his education for four years more in a high school. 4. Compulsony attendance laws require children to attend school until the age of sixteen, with some special provision for those who have completed a certain level of education. 5. On the average students attend school approximately six hours a day.6. Ideally, the curriculum of a comprehensive high school would include at least four years of English and American literature, three years of social studies, two of mathematics, one year of science, ect. 7. In addition to the courses that are being required, students are able to choose the so-called “elective courses» in advanced mathematics, science, foreign language, are music and some others. 8. Realistically, however, there are few high schools that can offer such an extensive choice of basic and elective subjects to their , students.
