People in every country celebrate holidays.Although "holiday" means "holly day" most holidays in Great Britain are not religious but commemorative in nature and origin.There are only 6 public holidays a year in Great Britain,that is days on which people need not go in work.There are:Christmast Day,Boxing Day,Good Friday,Easter Monday,Spring Bank Holiday and Late Summer Bank Holiday.In Scotland,the New Year`s Day is also a public holiday.
Christmas
For many British families Christmas is the most important holiday.Christmas is selebrated in Grean Britain on the 25-th of Desember.Christmas is a religious holiday and one of the happiest holidays of the year,because it is the day that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
People prepare for Christmast weeks before:they buy gifts for their families and friends,choose fur-trees and decorate them with ornaments,coloured paper,holly and lights,different toys and candles.
There are a lot of traditions connected whith Christmas but perhaps the most important one is Christmas present.Children wait for Santa Claus who comes to every house and brings presents.Going to bed children leave their stockings and shoes to receive present the next morning.
There are a lot of jokes and fun on Christmas day.Young people like to spend it together in good companies.Family members sit down to a big turkey dinner followed by Christmas pudding and Christmas cake.Later in the afternoon they will watch the Queen on TV as she delivers her traditional message to the U.K. and the Commonwealth.
People wish each other a "Merry Christmas!"

On Manday, we visited the Tower of London and spent the whole day there. I took lots of photos. Next to the Tower there's the famous Tower Bridge.

I was lucky to get photos of Tower Bridge when it was open, wasn't i? I'll show you sometime. Next day we want to Buckingham Palace and saw the Changing of the Guard. There were a lot of tourists there. Imagine, there ate more than 600 rooms in the palace and the royal family has got a cinema and a swimmming pool there.

We spent Wednesday in Greenwich. We went there on a boat. We visited the home of the "Prime Meridian", the imaginary line that divides the world into east and west. Fantastic place!

Yasterday it was rainy and windy, so we went to the British Museum. You collect coins, don't you? I bought a special souvenir for you there. Hope you'll like it. Today it's sunny and warm, and we are going to the London Eye.

Well. I must go now. It's time to leave.

But how did I get to the Edinburgh of hundreds of years ago? Was I mag? Was it a bad dream? I didn't know the answer. I looked at the soldier. He was real. I touched his forehead. His temperature was high - that was real too. " If I don't help him, he'll die. And I'll die too," I thought and opened my rucksack. There were a lot of medicines in my rucksack. I had an aspirin, some nose drops and some cough syrup. I gave my medicine to the soldier. " If you don't have the plague, my medicine will help you. You must stay in bed and drink a lot of water, " I said to him. Two days later the soldier was better. It wasn't the plague. It was flu. But when I told him about it, he didn,t believe me. "You have some secret medicine and you can cure any disease," he said. " I must go back to London tomorrow. If you come with me, I'll do anything for you." The soldier and I went to London.
