I love New Year's Day! To me, this is a day when my family get and ejoy themselves. On January 1st, my house is always full of aunts, uncles and cousins who i haven't seen for ages and we all have the chance to catch up with each other's news. My mum always makes a delicious roast beef lunch and we all sit around the table and eat , talk and laugh for hours. After this huge meal, it's time to watch the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is one of the most important footbal championships in American League football. Everybody has their favourite team and sometimes the yelling and cheering can get very loud! The food and the football are all great, but i think the best part of the day is when we makeour New Year resoiunions. Although most people don't keep their New Year promises, it is interesting to hear what everybody wants to change about themselves!

Я думала, что все так хорошо в течение нескольких месяцев до национального конкурса фортепиано. Я тренировался каждый день, пройдя через все мои произведения Шопена и Моцарта. Моей мечтой было победить в конкурсе. Я выиграл других соревнований прежде, некоторые более престижной, но этот был очень важен для меня. Я хотел, чтобы моя мечта сбылась так уж плохо. Я верила, что смогу победить.За день до конкурса я был в доме моего учителя фортепиано играть через части снова, как разминка перед большой день, но что-то случилось. Я просто не мог играть.Я чувствовал себя действительно нервничал. Мой учитель, миссис Woodham, сказал мне, чтобы играть, но когда я сделал, что не было никакого чувства в музыке. Там не было никакой магии там.Миссис Woodham посмотрел на меня и сказал: "Вы не готовы к конкуренции завтра».Я разрыдалась. Она была доброй и нежной, и она поняла, что я боялся играть на пианино, что это было почти как начать снова.Г-жа Финли был очень терпелив. Я ходил к ней каждую неделю, и мало-помалу я начал с удовольствием играть снова. Я начал практиковать снова каждый день на мой прекрасный рояль. Я была так счастлива. Я получил обратно свою гордость и уверенность в себе.Это было очень трудное время в моей жизни, но я не жалею об этом. Я чувствую себя сильнее из-за этого. Я потерял некоторые вещи, на время - моя гордость и уверенность в себе, но я получил их обратно со всеми моя тяжелая работа и помощь от других людей. Теперь я готов, у меня есть еще один шанс сыграть в следующем национального конкурса пианистов и сделать мою мечту. Когда я делаю, я хочу, чтобы мои родители и миссис Woodham и миссис Финлей быть там.

MAKING MY DREAM COME TRUE I thought I was doing so well in the months before the national piano competition. I practised every day, going through all my pieces from Chopin and Mozart. My dream was to win the competition. I’d won other competitions before, some more prestigious, but this one was very important for me. I wanted my dream to come true so badly. I believed I could win. The day before the competition I was at my piano teacher’s house to play through the pieces again as a warm-up before the big day, but something happened. I just couldn’t play. I felt really nervous. My teacher, Mrs Woodham, told me to play, but when I did there was no feeling in the music. There was no magic there. Mrs Woodham looked at me and said, ‘You’re not ready for the competition tomorrow.” I burst into tears. No hope of winning the competition, my dream of success was gone. I hadn’t done enough. I kept hearing the words “not ready” in my head. For me, the competition was a symbol of my pride and self-confidence. I went home. My parents were very kind and tried to make me feel better, saying it didn’t matter, but that wasn’t the point. They didn’t understand that I couldn’t even sit at the piano, my beautiful piano. I was scared, I didn’t want to fail again. Then my mother had an idea. She convinced me to go and see another teacher, Mrs Finlay. I didn’t want to but in the end I went to see her. She was kind and gentle, and she understood that I was afraid to play the piano, that it was almost like starting again. Mrs Finlay was very patient. I went to see her every week and little by little I began to enjoy playing again. I began to practise again every day on my beautiful piano. I was so happy. I had gained back my pride and self-confidence. It has been a very difficult time in my life, but I don’t regret it. I feel stronger because of it. I lost some things for a time - my pride and self-confidence, but I got them back again with all my hard work and help from other people. I’m ready now, I’ve got another chance to play in the next national piano competition and make my dream come true. When I do, I want my parents and Mrs Woodham and Mrs Finlay to be there.
