I was ill...days ago, ...weeks ago, ...months ago, ...years ago, ...last week, ...last month, ...last year.
I had a sore throat, a headache, a cold, flu, toothache, stomachache, earache...
I felt better in...days, ...weeks.

What is an Irisman?

*This is Paddy O'Donoghue. He is an Irisman. He was born an atch 15th, 1950.
Paddy lives in a grey brick house with/five rooms, in Dublin, the capital of southern Ireland (Eire). He dislikes work very much; if he didn't have to work, he would be a very happy man. He says: "Well, you see, i've got a wife and six children and they all need food and horse-racing every week for a Dublin newspaper.

*Paddy loves talking and telling stories. If he didn't have to work every day, he say, he knows exactly what he would do: he would get up late in the morning and eat a big plate of bacon for breakfast. He would then so to this favourite "pab" and have theree glasses of beer, and tell everybody what he did the day the before. In the evering he would have a big meal and sing with his wife and friends.

*Paddy likes: a good fight, his coloured ties, the bar-maid in the pud, singing, beer and IreLand.

He doesn't like: rech English met? People who don't listen to his stories, and his work.
The national emblem of Ireland is shamrack.

bathroom is open. The father is surprised and lookes in. He sees his daughter holding the cat in her arms and cleaning its teeth with his toothbrush. Linda doesn't see her father and continues her cleaning. Linda's father call his wife. Linda's mother comes in and lets the cat go. But the little girl says : Why? I'm sure Daddy needn't make such a fuss about it because it isn't the first time I cleaned the cat's teeth with that toothbrush. ПОМОГИТЕ С ПЕРЕВОДОМ ПОЖАЛУЙСТА!

It's not usually as cold in Britain as it is in Russia or Canada. In some parts of Britain winter goes by without any snow falling at all.
It doesn't usually get very cold in the winter or very hot in the summer.
It's not true that Britain is a wet and foggy country. It may not rain very much but you can never be sure of a dry day. Sometimes it rains so heavily that the British say "It's raining cats and dogs."
That's why British people say "Other countries have a climate, in England we have weather." The weather in England changes very quickly. Sometimes the British have weather from each season all in one day.
People often say that the British talk about die weather all the time. This is an exaggeration, hut it's certainly true that the weather is a good way to start a conversation with a stranger. Because of the changeable weather there is always something to talk about in Britain even with a person you don't know.
